Exhort 94 – Prayer Before Surgery and for Post-Op Recovery

If you are preparing for surgery, waiting for a loved one to come through a procedure, or recovering from an operation, you are in the right place to bring it all before God. Whatever questions, concerns, or uncertainty you may be carrying, allow this prayer to invite His peace, protection, wisdom, healing, and restoring presence over every stage of your journey.

  1. Dear God,
    I praise You
    and thank You
    for Your presence,
    Your mercy,
    and Your unfailing love.
  2. Thank You
that I can come to You
    just as I am,
    with every concern,
    every question,
    and every burden
    I have been carrying.
  3. Lord, You know
    what has brought me
    to this moment.
    You know my body.
    You know my condition.
    You know why this surgery
    has become necessary.
  4. And You know, Lord,
    the thoughts
    that have been going
    through my mind.
    The uncertainty.
    The questions.
    The concern
    about what lies ahead.
  5. I wonder,
    why me, Lord?
    Why is this happening
    to me?
    Why must I go through
    something like this?
  6. I may not understand
    why this is happening,
    or why this path
    has become part
    of my journey.
  7. But Lord,
    I bring these questions
    before You.
    I do not want
    to remain trapped
    in wondering why.
    I want to find peace
in knowing You are with me.
  8. Help me release
    the burden
    of needing to understand
    everything
    before I can trust You.
  9. Remember me, Lord.
    Remind me
    that this moment
    does not mean
    You have abandoned me.
  10. Lord, I also bring before You
    anything known
    or unknown
    that may be connected
    to what I am experiencing.
  11. If there are choices,
    habits,
    burdens,
    patterns,
    or things carried
    through generations,
I ask for Your divine mercy
    and healing from them.
  12. Let nothing
    known or unknown
    stand in the way
    of the restoration
    You desire
    to bring.
  13. Today, Lord,
    I place this surgery
    into Your hands.
    I place my body
    into Your hands.
    I place every outcome
    and every concern
    into Your hands.
  14. You know
    the thoughts that come
    when I think about
    entering the operating room.
  15. Lord, calm my heart.
    Quiet the questions
    that trouble my mind.
    Let Your peace
    settle over me
    as I prepare
    for this procedure,
    Lord Jesus.
  16. When I close my eyes,
    may I dwell
    in Your loving care.
    And when the procedure
    is complete,
    may I awaken safely
    into Your peace.
  17. Lord, I place
    the surgical team
    into Your hands.
  18. Guide the surgeon.
    Guide every assistant.
    Guide every nurse.
    Guide every specialist
    who will be involved
    in my care.
  19. Give the surgeons
    steady hands,
    clear judgment,
    sharp focus,
    and the wisdom
    to make the right decisions
    at every moment.
  20. Let every movement
    be precise.
    Let every instrument
    be used correctly.
    Let every step
    of the procedure
    be carried out
    with skill and care.
  21. Guide the anesthesiologist
    and everyone responsible
    for monitoring my body.
  22. Give them wisdom
    to manage the anesthesia,
    my breathing,
    my circulation,
    my blood pressure,
    and every vital sign.
  23. Let them recognize
    anything that requires
    immediate attention.
    And give them clarity
    to respond wisely
    and without delay.
  24. Lord, let Your divine protection
    cover every aspect
    of this surgery.
    Let everything proceed
    safely, smoothly,
    and according
    to Your perfect will.
  25. Guide every decision
    with Your wisdom.
    Let every step
    be carried out
    with clarity,
    precision,
    and confidence.
  26. Let Your Holy Spirit
    be present
    throughout the procedure.
    Let Your divine wisdom
    guide every hand
    and every decision.
  27. And Lord,
    I pray for the people
    who love me.
  28. Those waiting
    for the surgery
    to be completed.
    Those wondering
    how I am doing.
    Those who may be carrying
    their own concerns
    about my condition.
  29. Surround them
    with Your peace.
    Strengthen their hearts.
    Help them remain calm
    while they wait
    for news of my recovery.
  30. Let them find comfort
    in knowing
    that I am receiving care,
    and that Your presence
    is with us all.
  31. Let us be able
    to give a testimony
    of celebration
    of Your goodness
    after my surgery,
    and rejoice together
    in my full recovery.
  32. And when the surgery
    is complete, Lord,
    I ask for Your healing
    to continue
    through every stage
    of my recovery.
  33. Touch every area
    that has been operated on.
    Touch every incision.
    Every tissue.
    Every muscle.
    Every nerve.
    Every bone.
And every part of my body
    that needs restoration.
  34. Let wounds
    close and heal properly.
    Let damaged tissues
    be restored.
    Let nerves
    recover healthy function.
    Let bones and joints
    heal with strength
    and stability.
  35. Give me strength
    for each stage
    of rehabilitation.
  36. Guide my movements.
    Restore my flexibility.
    Restore my endurance.
    Restore my confidence
    in this body.
  37. Renew my patience
    and my strength
    through Your Holy Spirit.
  38. Surround me
    with wise medical guidance,
    supportive loved ones,
    helpful resources,
    and every form of care
    You know I need.
  39. Guide my doctors
    as they monitor
    my recovery.
    Give them wisdom
    that aligns
    with Your perfect healing.
  40. Help me follow
    the right instructions.
    Help me recognize
    when to rest
    and when to move.
    Help me avoid
    what may interfere
    with my healing.
  41. Lord, protect my mind
    from dwelling
    on what could go wrong.
  42. I will not allow
    the uncertainty
    of this moment
    to define my future.
  43. Instead, Lord,
    I choose to trust
    that You are with me
    before the surgery,
    during the procedure,
    and throughout
    my recovery.
  44. Your Word reminds me
    not to fear,
    for You are with me.
    That You will strengthen me,
    help me,
    and uphold me
    with Your righteous hand.
  45. So I hold on
    to that promise, Lord.
  46. When I feel uncertain,
    be my peace.
    When I feel weak,
    be my strength.
    When I feel overwhelmed,
    remind me
    that I am not alone.
  47. Let Your goodness
    and mercy
    surround me.
  48. Let Your peace
    fill my mind.
    Let Your protection
    cover the procedure.
    Let Your wisdom
    guide those caring for me.
  49. Let Your healing presence
    restore my body.
    Let Your strength
    carry me through recovery.
    And let Your faithfulness
    remain my confidence
    each day.
  50. May I come through
    this surgery safely.
    May my recovery
    be steady and complete.
    May my strength
    return day by day.
  51. And may my healing
    become a testimony
    of Your mercy,
    Your wisdom,
    Your faithfulness,
    and Your healing power.
  52. Thank You, God,
    for hearing me.
    Thank You
    for being present
    in every moment
    of this journey.
  53. Thank You
    for sending Your Holy Spirit
    to guide and comfort me.
    And thank You
    for surrounding me
    with the care,
    the wisdom,
    and the support
    I need.
  54. I place everything
    into Your hands, Lord.
    And I trust You
    to guide me
    through every step.

In Christ, I pray.

Amen.
